I also think it would be in the best interest of Jakarta for branding
purposes to except and keep only high quality projects with a strong
developer base. There is also the Jakarta Commons where projects can
incubate and eventualy earn the right to become an official project. I can
possibly see Cactus which is a Common project now, growing to the point
where it can out of the commons at some point. While Jakarta may evolve to a
point of having lots of projects, I think becauses it is exclusively Java
(not to say a project will not use or have some C or C++ library code) it
will be a better place for Java projects than source forge. IMHO.
Regarding Lucene on Jakarta. When it moves... seems like it is just a matter
of time now. It's direction will probably stay focused because of the strong
user base already, but there is always room for improvements and additional
features. I would like to see a contrib. area of Lucene where we could
incubate ideas and so forth.
