It is sometimes nice to read the message carefully before firing off a hasty answer. Otherwise I have always found SuSE working straight out of the box on almost all of my installations and I am surprised this did not happen with you. In the cases where it didn't, using safe settings settled the issues for me and these were quite rare. But then what makes me tick is spending hours hacking away at a problem until Eureka!
