Hi Andrew,
 
Suse comes with php4 it doesnt come with php5,
but am going to look for the libiconv-devel and see if i can sort out
the mess like Bernard said,
 
i will post the result of what i get,
 
someone also suggested i use rpms, so am gonna
give them a try also.

am not sure may be suse ships with PHP4 thats why they had to build it
from source but am sure there as suse repos you could point to to get
PHP5
