Doubtful. At least I wouldn't volunteer for the job. Firstly because the 
volume of mail can overwhelm you. Secondly because the moderator may have 
strong personal opinions on some issues and can easily stifle free debate and 
discussion on a topic that does not please them.

In general we rarely have issues that need a strong moderator's hand and I 
would say that the people I've observed on this list are quite rational. But 
even rational people lose it once in a while especially over things they are 
very passionate about. But being able to accept one's mistake and apologise 
is enough.

On this point, I believe that Colin's apology should let us consider this 
particular point to be moot.
