Jerry, Orange does not block smtp/pop access for any one. We are yet to complete the mail relaying platform, which when you get to use it, you will understand why the delay. You should be able to use smtp.gmail.com or any other smtp relay that allows you smthauth. If for example you want to use your previous smtp account with any ISP that does not support smtpauth, but relayed email from their clients by an allowed range of IP addresses, you will experience a problem because that ISP does not allow Orange IP addresses to smtp through them.
