It is not likely to be a DNS problem, or peculiar to Orange UG, or peculiar to Ubuntu for that matter. I use 3G and friends everyday (on different networks in .ZA) and always find that after some random time (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours), my browser shows: "looking for www.google.com" and nothing happens. At this time, there is no traffic that is passing through, not just dns. The only solution is to unplug the usb modem, plug it back and re-connect.
