Hi, The Stanbic banking theft is mainly for those who use their VISA cards via ATM or swiping when they travel, be very careful esp. in East Africa, i have a friend who was robbed of close to a million shillings courtesy of transactions that were made to from his card details probably left when he transacted in Nairobi about a month after he had left that Nai.
I think internet banking is a different scenario because their debit Electron cards don't have enough information to enable internet / online banking at least the ones i have been getting don't unless you explicit request for this service and as for their internal online banking platform i haven't yet had any scenarios and its safer with mobile pins for monetary transactions. The million dollar question is why is this happening for only Stanbic Bank. Simon Everyday is a new day, making it a good day is what counts. ________________________________ From: Hari Kurup <[email protected]> To: Mike Barnard <[email protected]> Cc: Linux Users Group Uganda <[email protected]> Sent: Fri, March 26, 2010 3:13:10 PM Subject: Re: [LUG] Ubuntu to the rescue On 2010/03/26 1:53 PM, Mike Barnard wrote:- > > > BTW I am also a happy internet banking customer of Stanbic Bank Uganda. > As I am not on the ground, I am not sure of the pattern of online > banking fraud reported in UG. > > > our faithful bank had something weird working their systems lately... Just checked - my account is still fine and I frequently use their visa electron card. -- Hari _______________________________________________ LUG mailing list [email protected] http://kym.net/mailman/listinfo/lug LUG is generously hosted by INFOCOM http://www.infocom.co.ug/ All Archives can be found at http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ The above comments and data are owned by whoever posted them (including attachments if any).
