Thx Reinier and Simon, Both options provide a really needed break. SlingshotSMS and FrontlineSMS seem like the ideal options at the moment. I'll check them out and give you an update. When this works out, a Lug or MoMoKla presentation wouldn't be far off. The idea is to do a proof-of-concept for the use of mobiles to be used as a tool for real-time communication and interaction with web apps. Imagine all the uses, assistance to the illiterate, chatting ... :) (Did I hear someone ask for local content?) PS: I would not mind if anyone would like to partner and take this to the next level. Open Source products are encouraged. Reinier Battenberg writes:

Both simons suggestion have that option. You could also check out slingshotSMS

Subject: [LUG] [OT] SMS to csv / DB

Good day,

'Ope you had a nice time, at MoMoKla.

Something's been botherin' me for a while now. Does anyone have a way of
automating the picking of SMS messages from a phone/SIM and then sending
them to a csv file or DB? The idea is to pick and store the sender number
and SMS details.

Sending an SMS via php/web (to a physical phone number) is ok as it goes
via e-mail to the provider’s SMS gateway. Is there a way to reverse this
process, via kannel, (or some other software) or do I have to consider
using a hacked modem and checking for the texts at given intervals?

Pl'se free to contact me off-list, if the need arises. All ideas are
welcome.

PS: The cost of a third party bulk SMS Provider (like TrueAfrican), is
currently prohibitive. :) (DO they even offer such a service?)

FRANCIS.
