But if I do that what about the user accounts?
Won't I loose all the account information?

Look into the option of demoting the 2003, making the 2008 the primary with the same domain parameters then having the 2003 join the 2008.

Has anyone ever come across this
I am trying to make a 2008 Server a DC in an Existing 2003 Domain

When I run dcpromo it goes well until the last step then I get the error

The Operation Failed Because:

A domain controller could not be contacted for the domain <DOMAIN NAME> that contained an account name for this computer. Make the computer a member of a workgroup then rejpin the domain before retrying the promotion.

 "Access Denied."

I have tried as much as I can after that and still nothing improves...

Any help would be appreciated.
