What open source tools can I monitor the bandwidth usage on a NIC, the OS is windows 2003 server. I am using this box to connect my internal LAN to my ISP, and since I cannot get data from them, I can try to get some data myself
PRTG is not open source, but quite good for simple monitoring. You can even use Windows built-in Performance Monitor for basic monitoring of total traffic, and the freely downloadable Network Monitor or Wireshark for detailed analysis (http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Analyzing-Traffic-Network-Monitor.html).
Alternatively, if you have a router that can export Netflow data, or you can install a Linux/FreeBSD transparent bridge, you can use pmgraph (http://pmgraph.sourceforge.net).
