Hello,

1. I am evaluating two ISPs, and currently I am connected to both of them on
different PCs with equivalent processing power. I have run a traceroute to
google on two PCS connected to each network at the same time and I get the
following:

a) ISP1 and ISP2 both have the same number of hops to Google - that's where
the similarity ends

b) ISP1 has shorter times in the tracert output between 10 and 240ms while
ISP2 has between 200-700ms

c) The tracert from ISP1, with shorter times take 7 seconds to complete
against 3 seconds for ISP2. Basically the information for the longer hops is
returned signifcantly faster than that for the slower hops

d) ISP1 has poorer VOIP connectivity than ISP2

e) The bandwidth for both ISPs is the same

2. Why does the ISP with slower times between hops perform worse (I would
expect that its better)

3. What do the slower times between hops stand for, I thought that the less
time the better performance

Thanks in advance

Stephen
