Hi Simon,

before you go all the way and turn OpenERP into a network monitor tool, there 
might be some more lightweight options.

- Email. The monitor software can probably spit out emails when things go 
wrong. Send them to OpenERP and create a ticket from them. With a bit of 
tweaking you might even be able to automatically link the correct client to 
the ticket automatically.

- Links. When you look at a client in OpenERP, it might be easier to write a 
little code that generates a link to this clients view in your monitor 
sofware. And while coding, you might also be able to embed that link in an 
iframe, so you dont have to leave the window.

In general, this sounds like big projects, that you might want to look at 
doing with a more global community. Defenitly post your ideas on the OpenERP 
forum.
