Dear members,
I have early in the morning gotten to office with this puzzle.
One of the big people in office calls me and tells me that he could not
access his mails for almost an entire month. It so happens that his
person's mail box has it's latest mail as that of 10th Dec 2010. When I
checked the mailserver side on the mailbox in question, it was true this
person was missing some mails. But to my surprise, minutes later some
mails of today came into the mail box meaning that the mailbox is still
active and receiving mails. I have tried to think through the problem
and contacted many Google reads, all in vain. Contacted some friends I
consider better than me in mail servers and all tell me that is it the
first time to hear of some thing like this.
Conditions:
1. This person doesn't POP mails off the server (uses webmail all the
time)
2. I have failed to access the server over ssh with ma terminal (I
get a 'Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer' error [which
is usually normal considering that the server is on a different network
connected to this network by two satellite connections] when ever I try
to ssh the box). However I can get to the server through webmin (after
a number of trials) but I have failed to read the /var/log/mail log file
because, before it finishes populating in the command shell
(Webmin->Others->Command Shell) the network is reset and it times out.
This means that I have failed to read the log file. In the time being am
trying to contact ma colleague on the server-lan (who is less
experienced with a Black Screen-Read Terminal) to find the log file but
still failing.
3. The physical distance between me and the server is too long
(300KM). Meaning I either access the machine or access it to work on
this problem.
Meanwhile as I wait for a response from the other colleague of mine, I
wanted to present this issue to you members and may be, I could find
some one who has seen it before and give me a head start.

NOTE: The Webmail customisation of this user gives him 100 mails per
display and looking at the missing mails,(tries to make the same
number). I am made to assume that (Oba) this person by mistake selected
all and hit that Button (Delete). Am sorry to think like this but am
left with little options, considering that this is happening to only one
person on the entire mailserver having over 400 people.

Am eager to know from you!
