For coding I use Eclipse or Gedit. Both support syntax highlighting. Eclipse
has a ton of plugins for most languages such as XML or Java, as well as version
control systems such as git or svn.

It can be a little bloated however.

Subject: [LUG] Notepad++

Dear all,
I am trying out programming and my tutor tells me that notepad++ is the best
text editor to use. The problem is I am using ubuntu and I dont want to use
wine. I have googled for the best alternative to notepad++ for ubuntu but the
results are so diverse that am still stuck. Please recommend me a good
alternative.

Regards,
Michael
