LUG is a Linux discussion group; but the ubiquity of OS technology often leads to what one would call off topic issues: Take the case: the os will heavily rely on the hardware (things like Von Neuman, Parallel architectures, Harvard Architectures, Neural Nets, etc ) hence discussions of CPU implementations,RISC, CISC, Assembly language, C language, Chip implementations, etc the same OS is involved in loading device drivers, optimizing memory usage, handling disk storage, etc hence discussions of usb devices, and back up servers the same OS is involved in communication hence discussions of protocol stacks like TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, SNA, AppleTalk, Netbios/Netbeui and how the cisco cli resembles that of Linux, why some device manufacturers don't want to route certain protocols, etc the same OS has to provide a programming interface, so arguments like CLI is better than GUI will suffice, depending on whether the proponent's clientele is of engineers designing plumbing systems, games developers, or of sys admins pinging networks, etc the os has to stay in business competing with other OS, hence discussions of which OS does better, Novell, Microsoft, Linux, Apple, non off the shelf OS in high end defense departments, etc today the OS is involved in mobile devices, so discussions of whether Android will survive or linux will soon come up with its own and better mobile version or even ms windows bundling their thing as a mobile os
Given all the above, its true that some threads could be off topic, but some can be tolerated > Lets put it this way, the LUG is a discussion group for technology > enthusiasts with interest in open source, linux and technology in general. > > > Why try to fix it if its not broken... > > > > > > On Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 10:00 PM, sanga collins > <[email protected]>wrote: > >> Thats one of the reasons i joined ... its linux focused but members >> discuss alot more than linux :) >> >> >> On Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 3:49 PM, David M.
