Am I the only one seeing some danger in this? Right now, there is a vacuum all these VoIP providers strive to fill. As far as I can see, none of these are interoperable. I can call a UTL number from an MTN number, but I can't call a Viber account for a Skype account. We're rapidly approaching the same situation we had with instant messaging several years ago, before almost everyone of relevance became reachable on either IRC, XMPP, Facebook Chat, or a combination of the three.
There are two standards for VoIP known as SIP and H.323. Much like XMPP, being on different servers poses no problems as the standards support federation. The main problem is much like XMPP, too: Since it is a standard and not a product per se, there's not *one* cuddly app out there which is the definite starting point, but rather dozens, hundreds, of apps supporting the standards.
