Benjamin, You raise a very important point there. Interconnection between different VoIP networks is very important much like it's in the traditional GSM. One can urge that infact there's interoperability between various VoIP networks as long as the providers are compliant with the SIP protocol. For instance you can call a SIP address like sip:[email protected] just another provider.
The problem is the de-factor VoIP provider Skype runs on a proprietary protocol (which has also been one of it's advantages) making it difficult for other VoIP providers to interconnect. However, whatever the case is, in the future I foresee third party app that will enable users "sign in" at once to all these different networks. A one-account-to-rule-them-all kind of thing like it's in the IM with apps like ebuddy, IMO, meebo etc. Thanks & regards, David Okwii, Senior Editor TechPost, www.techpost.ug, Tel: +256791040262, +256778607301 Vision.
