First saw this on the Register ( http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/07/16/torvalds_potty_mouty_fight_back/ ) a while back. The knee-jerk reaction is of course one of "oh Lord, isn't Linus so full of it!" Personally:
1. I think Linus is right. The interests in this OS are HUGE. You can't keep it ticking along using the politeness of committee. Perhaps there are other, better, methods, but we don't know what they are yet. And in this instance he was right. But now look at how we are debating message delivery rather than message! 2. In certain projects, there is that person that is special. Unique. You can work yourself into a lather (because of received democratic sensibilities) but really it's just a fact. Steve Jobs was unique in the Apple story. Linus is unique and special in the Linux story. When you have such people, you learn to accommodate them. To work with them or around them. To eat a little humble pie. Or go away. The exceedingly left-brained may find this hard to swallow, but it is the best way. So in Linus's case, you account for his upbringing, cultural differences, etc., and you shut up and dance. Or go away. I don't think you can do what he does for Linux without being bit of an a***hole. P.
