What kind of students are we talking about here, in my experience , some people don't really care what OS they are using. Rather their interest is the tools that are in the system. This is the case mostly for students who do engineering and science , they won't really give a damn about the OS. If i can give an example of a student of telecom or one doing a degree in Mathematics , the norm has always been to use Mat-lab but, give these guys Octave, you just see them more focused on the work and will get Octave to give them the results they need. It is usually Computer scientists who may be picky because we fully are able to explore all choices in Operating systems.
There is a Distro that is particularly targeted to the needs of students from pre-school to University, it is like mixing an encyclopedia, math tools , stuff for chemistry and all that. http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Education-Li-f-e , this distribution is more packed as compared to Edubuntu . If it is just for Normal learning and Adaptation, i suggest Mandriva, it assumes that the user is most definitely a Newbie from the get go. It has a clean interface and no complications, i only hated it when it came to configuring modems, it was set to not allow you to act smart at least for the release i had. There was a wizard for everything. and i hated that. On Tue, Sep 3, 2013 at 11:45 AM, Benjamin Tayehanpour < [email protected]> wrote: > On 3 September 2013 09:18, James S. K.
