Oh thanks a lot for reading David, I only used MTN, I didn’t do Orange. I travel upcountry a lot so there was not need to buy Orange LTE yet when am in Dzaipi (26kms straight line from South Sudan border) I don’t pick their GSM. I would be misusing my well budgeted money.
Now, in Kampala, Orange is actually our best LTE provider, they use FDD and have access to the 2.6, 800 and 1800 freq bands which all support LTE. MTN does not, and MTN uses TDD thus making it harder for them. And lastly, 3GPP has not come up yet with a clear benchmark for LTE, apart from the expected parameters, the rest should probably be out by the end of this year, am not sure (I don’t work for 3GPP). My benchmark was fall back failure (coverage viz a viz market size and level of publicity) which could actually be implemented using Circuit Switched Fallback.
