Hi Herbert:

Actually Lutes are a lot more fragile, you don't carry a painting around all
over the place and play it at weddings, banquets and orgies like the Lute
was played. Most of the existing old Lutes have been updated and converted
from their original configuration and some, I understand, were converted
into Hurdy Gurdys.
