Hi Gary, I haven't seen a second verse to that chanson and offten there isn't for the 4-voice through-composed chansons. One does find more verses in the popular "voix de villes" for, say, 3 voices or voice-and-ren guitar. On the other hand, these songs often had a "response", that is to say, a second chanson that was written by the same composer (or a second composer wanting to cash in on the popularity of the song). These 'responses' often share some melodic and/or poetic material w/ the original. There may also be other vesions of the song w/ different internal workings or # of voices.
One source of info would be Jane Bernstein's excellent editions of the French chanson repertoire from, I think, Galaxy Press. Instead of cataloging them by author she is working through them book by book, publisher by publisher, with extensive footnotes. Often, if there was a 'response' from the author, it would follow it. If by another composer, it would turn up in later editions. These books, while not all out yet --and it's an understandably ongoing project-- are at the UC Berkeley Music Library if you can get down to the bay area. I could take a quick look too next time I'm over there. cheers, Sean On May 11, 2005, at 3:46 AM, gary digman wrote: > Dear Fellow Luters; > > Does anyone have, or know where I could find, the complete lyrics > to Pierre Moulu's "Amy Souffres" which was intabulated for solo lute > in Phalese and Attaingnant?
