I the summer where I live in Cincinnati, the "official" orchestra dons white jackets and becomes the the Pops orchestra. The seasons overlap a bit, so the musicians will go from playing a Beethoven/Mozart/Mahler concert one night to playing second fiddle to a Frank Sinatra impersonator the next. (Or worse - the Pops recently had Tom Wopat (the dark-haired guy) of the old Dukes of Hazard TV show as their "esteemed" guest.) These folks don't have the choice. You take the job playing Wagner, you also have to play "Baby Elephant Walk." I'm sure this happens all over the country. I certainly don't look down on these folks. You only want to play for descriminating, specialist audiences? Fine, go ahead. You want to make a living doing what you're doing, bringing pleasure to many people AND still play the music that brought you to play music in the first place? That's a professional. Sounds like a pretty good gig to me. Why not for lutenists? Or are we _just_ lutenists? Chris __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
