Yes marc Accuracy is nice. I wonder if you have gotten any answers to your questions, suitable that is. The method I have used requires a tool machinists use called a surface gauge, which can be made or bought. Starrett makes them. And you also need a flat surface that runs the length plus some and half the width, plus some. I must say this is my own invention to the problem you have encountered. I liked how it worked, but something better may be out there still. Simply put, the surface gauge, Do check on line for a picture of it, marks the surface of your mold. The gauge has height and angular adjustments, and is set upon your flat surface. It remains that you can have your mold rotate on three axis. So it seems the accuracy of your join line depends on the flatness of your surface plate. I simply made a butcher block style, a granite plate might be overkill, or at least overly heavy, and pricey. I could go on. There is more to it, If you would like to know. I also employed a compass plane, which I made myself, I suggest buying one, spokeshave's and anything else you think you might need. I say again it worked but there might be an easier solution. It actually worked quite well, I must say. But it still open to interpretation, angles and twists in the rib have to be accounted for. I remember having to remark lines after you shave them off. Things like this.

A fantastic book. There are very detailed instructions on how to build a bowl mould but no mention on how to facet them (it mentions that a accurately faceted mould is essential). It looks to me like most English builders use a section/bulkhead method of construction, like David Van Edward's CD courses and that bulk head construction has been historically documented, but does anyone know how to calculate/project and carve the facets from a solid block of wood? Other wise I am stuck before I begin. Thanks for any suggestions you can give. Marc.
