But I don't think the air in a closed case will change humidity as  
fast as the surrounding air.  If, for example, I take a closed case  
from a room with 40% humidity to a room with 60% humidity, the air  
inside the case will not reach 60% humidity immediately, will it?   
Frankly, I don't know; I've always assumed this to be the case, no  
pun intended.  So the case should protect the instrument from rapid  
changes in humidity.
