Not necessarily so. When I keep my gut strung lutes & vihuela in the care, & I open the lid, the tuning is usually very close to being right on. But, if I leave a gut strung lute out of the case, when I get to it, it is usually way pitch, tuning wide. So, in the case, the environment is fairly stable.
