Ed, These were barely visible, and finally disappeared completely. There was no difficulty in moving the frets.
However, I am sure they were not set for angled fretting.

This thread seems very interesting, as gradually we are hearing different methods of acheiving fairly similar results; and also hearing that it is not necessarily as easy as some pretend when they brieze-in with their lute exotically set
and an air of having just done this by ear in the lift on the way up.
I now feel it is alright if I struggle a little in trying to acheive a good result.

I once made the mistake of getting a lute repaired by a guitar maker.
He did me the "favor" of putting in little notches on the edges of
the fretboard so the frets wouldn't move out of EQ.
