> "sounds like something by Sting" How on earth can Ed sound like Sting, since he sings not a single note on any of his recordings?- And I believe it is Edin Karamazov doing the lute playing on the Sting album; a different "Ed" altogether. By the way, Milan himself wrote that the Pavans, at any rate, can be repeated- even three times if one wishes. But it's a little late in the day for you to be correcting Senor Milan on this point, more correctly informed though you may be than Maestro Milan on 16th century Spanish performance practices.
It does sound like an almost, but not quite veiled, personal attack as opposed to constructive criticism of Ed Martin; and from one who is so obviously inferior to him in experience, education, performing practice, teaching, etc. most inappropriate indeed. One has sometimes heard this style of criticism in master classes from established musical icons, such as Segovia, Pavarotti, etc. and even in that context it is often ugly. Ed's playing- specifically of the Milan- has earned extremely high praise from some masters who you would be very wise, and very fortunate, to study with. One point of partial agreement- many of us, and I mean ALL of us, in the plucked string world of fast decay (including our harpsichord colleagues) are frequently guilty of over-arpeggiating some of our chords. Takes a lot of attention, sometimes, to keep that tendency under control. -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
