David was so enthusiastic about baroque lute back in the days when very
few people played them. I am glad to have this opportunity to remember
an old friend.
Nancy
I have done this a good deal. There was a lutenist who many of the
older members may recall... David Phillips. He was a tremendous
lover of the lute, and a baroque lute scholar as well. I played a
tombeau, by deVissee at his funeral in 1981. I performed it on a
lute which he received on his death day, but had not heard it.
I have also played at many funerals, and occasionally, at a
viewing. I even did this 11 years ago at my mother's funeral.
I also play the lute every year in October, at a large medical
center's service of remembrance for all the children that died in
the
past year.
Good for you, David. I am sure that what you decide to do will be a
comfort to those that are grieving.
