Ed; I also remember David Phillips, from a lute seminar many decades ago; didn't know that you knew him. The world of Baroque lute seemed so strange to me at the time; he certainly made a hell of an impression that I can remember him vividly after all these years. He was a professional orchestral bass player if memory serves- something in common with the late Joseph Iadone.
