For this recording I used an archlute in A.
The A tuning in mentioned in Il Leuto anatomizzato by Valentini.

And if you have a look at the lute played by Della Casa:

you can clearly understand how a short instrument like this one can be tuned in A.

Also the Della Casa music and other similar manuscripts works very well with a tuning one tone higher than usual.
