"Savall and his musicians, as well as Tembembe, have moved beyond the scrupulous observance of some perceived rules of authenticity; they are simply crackerjack musicians who have played their instruments and this music for years. The music-making becomes almost secondary to the larger purpose of the communication between disparate groups of musicians and between musicians and listeners.
