Just a cursory search on the modernized phrase "o heilige, unbefleckte,
zart jungfrau schaffte Marie" and Virdung brings up a different version "o
heilige, unbefleckte, zart jungfrau innige Marie" that translates literally
as "O holy, immaculate, delicately intimate Virgin Mary". However if one
uses "schafte" instead of "schaffte" the title could be interpreted as "O
holy, immaculate, delicate maiden Mary". That appears to make literary
sense, but I seem to recall "jungfrauschafte" has other meanings.
My German isn't that great as it has been decades since I studied or spoke
it. Perhaps the germanophones on the list will have a better translation.
