Perhaps Dominic will reply in detail - but he does say in his original message that it is his own extended version and you wont find a lot of it in Sanz.

The strummed bit at the beginning is the standard chord sequence for the Marionas i.e.
C major G major A minor F major G major C major.

It is found at the beginning of the version of Marionas by Santiago de Murcia in the Saldivar Codex and in the manuscript Libro de diferentes cifras but not oddly enough in Sanz.

The Marionas is a version of the chacona and also has a descending bass line.

Hope that sheds a little light from afar.

Monica

Hi Dominic,
I have what is probably a "baroque guitar newbie" question. The Marionas
that I find is on page 7 of book 2 of the 1697 publication of Sanz.
Is this the version you are using?
In your recording and others that I have found I hear the chord progressions
of the introduction and am not sure where they have come from.
Can you help me to understand? I am very early in starting to understand
baroque guitar and this is a bit mystifying to me.

Regards
David

  Hello Luters,

Thanks for being so informative on a daily basis. Here is what
Marionas sounds like in reentrant and non-reentrant from Sanz. Same
tuning, same temperament, same fingering, all strung out on gut. My
  extended version.

  Reentrant
