How flattering that my name has been invoked as highly unofficial fact-finder.
Obviously, the only "evidence" is the photographer's statement that he did exactly what wildlife photographers typically do: find a subject and wait for it to do something interesting. You can disbelieve it if you like, but unless you know far more about the habits of dragon lizards than I do, you have no basis for your opinion, other than an assumption that the photographer killed two lizards and posed them, which seems like a lot of trouble, requiring considerable taxidermical skill; the posture in the second picture seems like it would be really hard to achieve with a dead lizard. But what do I know? The leaf-lute shot looks like a curious basking behavior.
