Hi Andrew, It looks to me like you have a bad block on your HDD. That might warrant consideration of replacing it, or not.
I had a problem a bit like yours once. In your position, I would | # (cd /var/lib/dpkg/info; mv mutter-common.list mutter-common.list.badblocks) mutter-common.list.badblocks will continue to occupy the bad block so no other file will try to use it. Next, restore mutter-common.list from backup if available else re-install mutter. After that turboprint install should get further than before. My previous system ran with a badblock file for a number of years (eventually died from chiprot in the SATA controllers). Cheers ... Duncan.
