(Excuse me if I am responding on the wrong way, I'm new to lists)
There aren't any problems caused due to the update of MediaWiki, but there are
problems caused by not running a php-script (maintenance/update.php) that is
required to run if an extension (AbuseFilter and CheckUser) that needs database
changes is installed.
Lxde-Wiki exists in many languages, on the main (English) wiki it's possible to
delete pages, but not on the other wiki's because maintenance/update.php isn't
runned yet. The spambots can create as much spam as they want, no one can
delete it. I can't even block or Checkuser them.
And the anti-spam extensions and extensions that can help (like CheckUser,
altough on the English wiki it works) doesn't work, also due to the script that
is not runned yet.
How can this be solved:
1. Run the maintenance/update.php script (recommended)
2. Open mw-config.php in your browser, fill in the Upgradekey and re-install
it. (Works in most cases and is a good alternative if there is no SSH
available, but new problems can occur)
Some extensions that should be configured correctly and be installed on each
wiki in my eyes:
1. AbuseFilter - Filters that check each edits can be used to avoid spam.
2. CheckUser - To check the IP-adresses of spambots.
3. CentralAuth - If there is a spambot that is spamming on mutiple wiki's (and
of course to avoid spamming on other wiki's) it can be locked (a kind of
blocking someone on each wiki) with just one click. It can also be used to see
on which wiki someone has done edits.
4. GlobalBlocking - Global blocks IP-adresses.
5. Nuke - To mass delete pages made by spambots.
6. ConfirmEdit - Uses CAPTCHA (but I think admins/autoconfirmed (users who are
registered for at least four days) shall be excepted)
7. TitleBlacklist - With Regex the creation of pages and user accounts if the
names matches a string can be stopped.
