Google seems to break their connection to Jabber network so Google
contacts are only available for other Google contacts, i.e. it isn't
Jabber anymore but private Google-only "gtalk service". I'm sorry.
And about IRC - it is as simple to use as possible. Just take any
convenient IRC client, set server irc.oftc.net, choose any nickname you
like, and join channel #lxde, that's all.
