Well, that is something entirely different.

Users moving from an open service to a proprietary one is their choice.

Seems I am lucky and none of my contacts wanted to regress into the dark ages.
I.e. most people I am in contact with are old enough to remember the bad days 
of proprietary networks like ICQ, AIM, MSN and are very happy that instant 
messaging is now as federated email.
