This does not work with recent (ie 0.99.x) versions of upower, since they have
dropped Suspend/Hibernate capabilities. There are alternatives with logind (if
you run systemd), or consolekit2.
I do not use systemd, but consolekit. My .xinitrc is:

ck-launch-session dbus-launch --exit-with-session startlxqt
---
Obviously, it needs consolekit. Then Shutdown and Reboot work (not
Suspend/Hibernate).
