Hello there lxde-people,

I've just joined the mailing list to ask for a little help about the
feature mentioned in the subject or for advancing my proposal, lacking
an already existing solution.

I use LXDE on Lubuntu since (I think) 12.x an a Dell XPS13 and I like it
very much.

Moving to and fro my office I often plug and unplug an external monitor
and it's a bit boring to manually run a command to enable both or return
to a single desktop.

There are a lot of guides out there to create desktop buttons, polling
scripts on xrandr and stuff like to partially automate the switch. What
I wanted is something a bit different, I didn't want something that
polls, I wanted something that is triggered. OSX and Unity already have
(I see my colleagues at work) this utility under the hood, although I
don't know how it works.

So after some searching I've put up a script that executes an automatic
monitor switch when an external source is plugged or unplugged. The
switch is triggered by the relevant UDEV kernel event, so there's no
polling:

First question, did I miss by any chance a tool to do that? I'd be glad
to switch from my homemade solution to something more reliable.

Second question, if the answer to the previous question is "no", would
LXDE be interested in having me provide a wrapping to this script in
some kind of UI so that a user could:
- use randr to define two or more monitor setups
- install all the needed stuff to automatically switch monitor
configuration like I did.

I could work on such a simple tool when my spare time allows.

I'd be superhappy to have your comments and suggestions on the matter!

Thanks,
Antonio

Mobile security can be enabling, not merely restricting. Employees who
bring their own devices (BYOD) to work are irked by the imposition of MDM
restrictions. Mobile Device Manager Plus allows you to control only the
apps on BYO-devices by containerizing them, leaving personal data untouched!
