It happens whenever you enter an executable. It loses the rendering of the terminal after entering an executable, so you have to press a key again to update. The effect gets worse when lxterminal is combined with mc, it loses even the connection with the keyboard, so it stops responding and the only way to fix it is closing the terminal tab and opening a new one....
