Agreed,
if such can be incorporated now, not only does lynx become even more
flexible than it already is, but such can raise the profile for lynx in
general. Especially for those who want access to video but cannot manage
it any other way.

When will the stable release be out, and will it incorporate this feature?

Hm. Is it really worth being so concerned about this? Ian Hickson has
said that the ETA of HTML5 final is 2022. It just seems to me to be too
much of a moving target to really worry about at this time.
It is a stable part of the specification that is in pretty wide use today.
