he current version of cgicc has macros that test things like name spaces and is GPL. Unless there are problems with the GPL that prohbits LyX from stealing them this would seem to be the obvious solution. (All these feature test macros, and 99% of the autoconf macros, do is try to compile a minimal program with the function, header, feature or whatever).
