Yes, I understand that layout based caption was (and still is) easier to
adjust for advanced user and that we cannot do that kind of
custumization with InsetCaption right now. But, if what I said above is
correct, you can still use the layout based approach for those advanced
uses up until the InsetCaption is able to offer the same custumizability
of layout based caption. Or am I still missing something?
No, but note that I was already aware of that possibility. Look at the
attachment to bug 4647 regarding contcaptions. It works perfectly in
LyX 1.4, but in 1.5, captions and contcaptions look different on screen,
and they should not.
AFAIU, only contcaption makes sense as a context menu option because we
don't want to change the layout here, only the numbering.
