LyX doesn't. Getting through firewalls, networking easily, recommends it. It's not about IM (though that would help collaborating authors); it's about communications using something better than unicast IP addressing. Note that LyX could talk to an external program that does all the IM work, via pipes/socketpairs/whatever IPC. Nico --
