I do not know what can be done at the LyX level for CentOS 6. It seems
that it is very easy to obtain gcc 4.8 on CentOS 6 provided one has
access to 3rd party repositories (e.g.
https://www.softwarecollections.org/en/scls/rhscl/devtoolset-3/); on the
other hand if the user is stuck for institutional reasons, then they
appear to be hopeless getting a C++11 compiler.
