I have no idea about the reason of that, but in my system, if there is a space before | the index entry is missing (confirmed). Otherwise the space after ! doesn't produce the error. I have seen some mail in the lists, and the Magyar and Japanese pages, but I can't view any direction in the LyX translation page. Is it any info over there?
