Hi. I just know this is a FAQ, but I cannot seem to find in
either the help menu or the mailing list archive. The problem
is in including figures. When I try to include a postscript
figure in the document, it works just fine and the lyx picture
looks just great. The problem comes when I try to preview
the document. An error is generated and a dialog box pops up
that instructs me to find the error. It is easy enough
to select the go to error menu command, but the error, although
clearly highlighted in red, is cryptic. From what I can tell
it suggests that .ps or .eps are not supported as an included
graphic in Latex. It also asks the user to
press return. This actually does not help. Could it be
possible that there is a bug or configuration
problem in Latex. When I type latex
from the system prompt, the version is 3.1415N C version 6.1.
I was wondering if it was a configuration error, but I did run
the lyx configure script. It should have warned me of any
problems there. Unfortunately, I don't know Latex well
enough to figure out how to debug the error from the Latex
side. Has anybody seen this? By the way, everything
works just great if a figure is not inserted. If the figure
box is clicked, and the figure is removed, the display works
just fine, and I suppose I could print that out and paste
the figure in by hand. I checked the documentation very
carefully and it seems that .ps or .eps should be supported
for printing as well as just screen display. The fact that
the screen display does show the rendered image (perfectly,
I might add) indicates that I am at least going in the right
direction. I heard some rumors about latex for Slackware
not working quite right, but I searched the WWW on this and
only found some vague reference to fonts, which surely has
nothing to do with this problem. Thanks for any advice you
might have.
Eric
