My guess would be "Modern Language Association", a US-based academic
professional society which pretty much sets the standards for humanities
journal publications.  

I have no idea wither there is a LaTeX package for MLA -- there ought to
be, but not too many humanists use LaTeX (or would have, before LyX).  If
there is such a package, it would be straightforward to design a LyX
layout for it.

Some people used to claim that, if enough monkeys sat in front of enough
typewriters and typed long enough, eventually one of them would reproduce 
the collected works of Shakespeare.  The internet has proven this not to 
be the case.
